Scholars Townhouse Restaurant
After a recent meal out in Scholars I felt compelled to do a review, I was so taken aback with the surroundings and quality of service that you would find hard to get anywhere else in Drogheda. From the moment you drive into the gravel car park, the charm of the building and the tinkle of the water fountain you could forgive yourself if you forgot you were in Drogheda.
As soon as you walk in the door you are welcomed in and your coats are taken from you, even thought we were eating at the first sitting of the evening we were given a choice if we wanted to have a drink first of go straight into the dining room. You don't get that feeling your being rushed at all, its like the staff are there to please and seem to enjoy their work.
Once inside the comfortable dining room there is a fabulous atmosphere, there is a beautiful log fire and a pianist playing and stunning Frescos with local history scenes, it wasn't stuffy in anyway, we enjoyed sitting and chatting together while the next table was a group of ten or more having a great time. The waiting staff worked with military style precision, we had our menus, glasses of water, drinks order taken within minutes. One thing that stuck me was how efficient all the staff were and how happy they were at their job, we never once had to ask for anything, the staff seemed to be in tune with the diners and would anticipated their needs. The food was stunning, I had belly pork for started and Duck for main course, my husband didn't have a starter and this was his only complaint, he said he would have loved some soup be there wasn't any on the menu, he had fillet steak for his main. While I drooled over my pork my husband tucked into beautiful breads that were left at out table, I also tucked into the yummy freshly made tomato bread. When our main courses came I could have been eating alone as my husband was lost in his steak, he did say if it had have had pepper sauce it would have been the best steak he ever had, he cant wait to go back again as the food was to die for. My main was spiced Duck with carrot puree, it was so different it was wonderful, my husband said he would have been happy with the duck and he is normally just a steak man. Our deserts were fantastic I had white chocolate and raspberry parfait and hubby had vanilla and apple panna cotta.
Scholars in a amazing building and the decor is very comfortable and tasteful but that's not would make you want to go back, it's the stunning food, the friendly staff and the little touches like the individual cotton hand towels in the toilets. If I had to find something negative it would be a very minor complaint like no soup on the menu and for someone who doesn't like seafood there was a lot on the menu, other then that it was perfect After a nice relaxing drink in the cosy bar we headed for home happy and content, cant waif for my next visit and couldn't recommend Scholars highly enough.
