Beaumont Hospital Car Park - Disgrace!!!!!

I had an appointment at Beaumont Hospital this week to see a knee specialist about my still lopsided knee cap. My appt was for 10.10am. I didn't expect to be seen at 10.10am, I know hospitals are busy places and I had given myself 2-3 hours for the appt.

But I did not expect to still be sitting there at 12.40....with no sign of being called. I had to ask the receptionist if I was due to be called because I needed to get back to pick up my daughter from school at 2pm. She said I was next on the list and sure enough at 12.50, I was called in.

The doc chatted with me and then said he needed the senior consultant to look at my knee. He said he'd be back in a minute. 20 mins later, I was still in the little room waiting. I had to call a neighbour to collect my daughter because I ended up being late back for her.

Anyway, as I finished up at 1.40pm I went to pay for the car park and was horrified to be charged €9!!!!!

Its 2.40 an hour for this car park and if you stay more than 4 hours, they give you a daily flat rate of €9.

What if you are visiting someone who is ill and need to spend alot of time at the hospital? How do people afford that?

I think its a disgrace. I actually know one of the 'businessmen' who invested in this car park and now I know why he did. He must be making a fortune off the back of people in the unfortunate position of needing to park here.

shame on them for charging this much at a hospital car park....

I have to use this hospital every 6 months for a clinic appointment and the parking fee is terrible. I feel especially sorry for families visiting loved ones in there during end of life care, as we also went through this a couple of years ago.

My Father-In-Law was here when he was dying and the cost was terrible. Its not something families should have to think about at a time like that when things are already so stressful but it has to be considered when its €9 a day.

Absolutely disgraceful.

I think all hospital parking charges are ridiculous.. is it because they know we need to use them??? Not right.

When Daddy was in St. James the daily rate was €15 and it was handed over many times in the month he was there. In his last week and a half we got a parking concession (but only 1 initially) and only had to pay €5. Once we knew he wouldn't have long we pushed for another..

Yes it's disgraceful that hospitals basically take advantage of people who are sick
There should be a system in all hospitals where each Patient is allocated parking pass and in the case of terminally ill patients family's it should be extended.

I agree! Certainly one primary visitor of a patient should get a certain amount of free parking. A friend of mine went through a fortune over a 3 week period visiting her mother. As if it wasn't stressing enough having someone close to you in there for so long.

I visited my sister in OLOL Drogheda yesterday and I usually try to get road side parking which is 1.20 an hour but with roadworks, I had to go to the car park across from the hospital. It was 3.50 for 1 hour 20 mins.

Its ridiculous how much it costs!!!!
