What is this about?
I am a graduate student from National University of Ireland – Galway, working with my faculty supervisor, Dr. Catherine Anne Field, in the Department of Health Promotion. This is a research study about miscarriage and the use of Internet forums as social support, in Ireland. This research aims to gain an insight into how Internet forums are used in supporting people following miscarriage or pregnancy loss. The findings of this research will contribute to the body of knowledge for the care and support of those who experience a loss.
Why have I been invited to take part?
I am looking for English speaking volunteers who are 18+ years of age, resident in Ireland, and have used Internet forums as support following a miscarriage.
If I do take part what will I have to do?
You are being asked to voluntarily complete this on-line survey. It involves questions about demographic information, your level of social supports, and your use of Internet forums following miscarriage. The survey should take less than 7 minutes to complete.
Do I have to take part? What will happen if I don’t?
Your participation in this research study is voluntary. You may choose not to participate. If you choose, you may stop the survey at any point. If you close your browser before completing the survey the information collected up to that point will not be used.
What will happen to the data collected?
The information from the survey will used to explore Internet forums as support following a miscarriage and how those forums are used. The results of this study will be published.
Are there any possible advantages/disadvantages if I take part?
Some participants may find answering questions about miscarriage to be distressing. The contact information for Miscarriage Association of Ireland (a free information and support group) and Samaritans (a confidential support service) will be provided in case you feel you need support or information during or after the survey is completed.
If I have any other questions where can I go?
If you have any concerns following the survey information resources and contact details have been provided. If there are any questions or concerns pertaining to the research, please feel free to contact me or my supervisor.
