just curious, if youve suffered a sudden bereavement then youve fallen on hard times, does the government offer any financial aid to help pay for anything? i read about the funeral grant but if the funeral has already happened and you wernt aware of it, can you still apply?

Yes, you can apply for help. There is a bereavement grant you can apply for - check with your local citizens advice.

even if the funeral has passed, you may still be able to claim this.

This is no longer available. It was removed by the budget in the last few years. It was available for deaths up to 2014 - not sure if that is the start or end of 2014. You can still claim now for these but not for anything since.
