The surgeon said I needed a knee brace to help my knee heal properly and the day I was discharged from hospital they said I should get a call within a few days to organise to get measured for the brace.
A week went by and I had heard nothing, so I rang the physio at the hospital about it and she said she would follow up.
Another 2 weeks went by and no sign of anything happening. I was anxious as the surgeon said it was important I get it so I would heal properly.
More than 6 weeks after my op, I finally got a call to be measured for the brace. The company who measures and fits them is a private company and the HSE pays them per brace.
The girl who was supposed to measure me for the brace said she was very busy and could I measure myself and send her the details. I had no clue what I was doing so she talked to me over the phone while I tried to get the measurements. She said I would have it within a few weeks.
A month went by and still no sign of is. I called and emailed her a few times but no reply at all.
Then last week I got a call from another rep at the company who said my brace was ready and I had to come in the next day to have it fitted and so he could show me how to do it. I was in Cork working, so I asked if another day would suit. He said he was very busy so I could go to the physio dept and fit it myself and it should be grand.
So, the HSE is paying this private company to measure and fit knee braces and they didn't measure or fit me. The HSE is paying them to have it done within a certain timeframe of a few weeks but this took 3 months.
I wonder how much the HSE pays them? I reckon they are getting seriously ripped off because these guys are not providing the product or service they are being paid for.
No wonder our Healthy system is in tatters, they haven't a clue what they are paying for.
So annoying!!!!
