So Annoyed....

So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health

So Annoyed....

Long story made short- Hailey has had ongoing urinary problems for over 2 years now.the public health nurse referred us to an incontinence unit in a hospital, after the initital referral where we supplied all the letters from her Nephrology consultant we were asked to supply them with a week long fluid intake, urinary output and everything she ate for the week (as you can imagine measuring the output was not a lot of fun!)....anyway a month passed still no word so got back on the PHN who got on to them.

A woman rang me from the incontinence unit and to say it was a shitty phone call was a complete understatement, I was in tears by the end of it as she came out with gems such as " that's ridiculous that she can wet herself so many time in a day"( that's why i flipping well need their help) " we never see children as young as 5" (why the hell did they ask me to do the input/output chart then if it was a complete waste of time)...and generally was just really snotty and unhelpful.i actually couldn't believe her attitude and the fact that she wont help her.

Why is it impossible in this country to get the help you need for a child in desperate need??? So Fecking pissed off

I am so annoyed on your behalf. Its absolutely disgraceful.

Right, how can we help??

Do you have a local TD who may be able to help on your behalf? If so, please post his/her email address and I will send an email on Hayley's behalf and I know there are alot of other mums on here who will send in emails on her behalf too. Right girls?

This is just not acceptable anymore, I am so bloody annoyed at our crappy, disorganized health system. Its not fair on Hayley so lets try to get something to happen here and we'll help in any way we can. Only if you'd like us to. I don't want to add to your stress, just want you to know you have support here.

That is a f***ing disgrace, you poor thing you must be out of your mind with frustration. And yes of course I would send an email expressing my disgust as a fellow mother. I don't know you at all but I feel for you haileysmum and hoping things start to improve for your little girl and for you.

Thanks ladies, ill admit that your very kind responses brought a tear to my eyes. I have been too angry to lift the phone to the PHN nurse that referred me there to go through what phone call was like, I am going to wait to ring her early next week by then I hope I will be able to speak in a calm tone and get my point across without loosing my cool.

Hopefully i will get some answers as to why she even referred Hailey there if they were never going to help her

I rang PHN and she wants me to make a complaint about the woman from the incontinence unit, she apologised profusely on her behalf and said she will talk to her manager and see where we can go from here to get Hailey the help she so desperately needs. She couldn't believe that she just refused to see her at all.

To give you an example of a day at school this week from 9-1.40 - she wet through 3 tracksuit bottoms and 7 pairs of pants with pads in them and thats only a half of that day, i think things are actually getting worse.

I mean it so sincerely when I say, we would like to help in any way we can. If there is anything we can do.

I would sign a petition, write a letter, send an email - anything at all to help.

Poor poor Hailey. Its a total disgrace. You must be so frustrated.

Disgraceful and poor Hailey, that is tough going. If you can muster the strength I would definitely put in a formal complaint in writing. They have to investigate and respond within certain time frames etc. "Your service your say" is the complaints procedure for hse I think if you want to Google it for more info. And ditto what sabrinas said.

My concern is that if i complain it will be even longer till Hailey gets seen by the incontinence unit and that this woman will know and take it out on us/ Hailey and bump her further down the waiting list- i really just want her seen to by someone and helped.ill wait and see what the PHN says when she gets back to me to see if she has gotten anywhere with them.

Oh haileysmam that's so upsetting to be going through. Poor Hailey.... you're doing absolutely everything you can......I agree with the girls if you don't get satisfaction from the phn definitely complain.....it could well have opposite effect and they'll see her quickie but I understand your concerns.....even that's horrible that you've been made feel like that

I have had a good experience in lodging a complaint with hse for myself. They acknowledged their mistake in writing and advised that they were am mending their protocol as a result of my complaint. I also helped a friend send a complaint to hse on her treatment by a doctor and she was assigned someone to manage her complaint and liaise with her directly and was actually prioritised for her next appointment. The complaints system is very transparent and I personally would not be afraid to use it but I do understand where you are coming from. Best of luck whatever you decide and above all I hope Hailey gets the help she so desperately needs asap. Once again, disgraceful that you have to find the strength to fight for this help when you are already obviously putting all your energy into helping and supporting your little girl. You are doing a great job by the way.x

i really appreciate your support on here, all of you are very understanding women and your kind words give me strength to keep going on the tough days.

i just feel so disheartened sometimes by the lack of help out there for children that need help- i mean you see it in the news the whole time some poor mum only last week walked from Cork to Dublin as she needs medicine for her child that they wont give her, same with the scoliosis patients having to make a tv expose to get the help they need it is really so exhausting battling with people for an appointment to get help.

Thanks again ladies x

Latest Update- Nurse from incontinence unit rang me again and was as horrible as the first call - some of her gems this time were "I don't know what's wrong with the child" she kept referring to Hailey as "the child" or "that child" rather than actually saying her name, she was so rude- I asked could I see anyone else in the unit but she's the only one that works in this section I asked do they do any tests or anything and she said "no that she just troubleshoots ideas" so basically she is of NO use to Hailey as all her ideas are things that I have been doing for over 2 years.....frustrating that an avenue that I thought might be able to offer some help to Hailey is of no use.

when I got back on to PHN she was again shocked how other nurse spoke to me and urged me to make a complaint on the yourserviceyoursay website, I will have a think about it and may do it.

You've got to make a complaint. There has to be someone else you can speak with. There has to be a way to complain about her bahavious.

It is Unacceptable.

Hailey needs professional advice, not 'troubleshooting'

This woman is a ridiculous person.

I complained about the treatment I got over my knee and it did make a difference. I got seen to more quickly and I got a second opinion.

Please write a letter of complaint. Ask your local TD who you should complain to. For Hailey and all the other patients this 'nurse' is failing

Oh absolutely complain about that b**** I feel furious for you, bad enough having to deal with the disappointment of another dead end without having to hear it from such a callous unprofessional wench. You probably feel you don't have the mental energy to do it but you might get a bit of pleasure from it! There's probably a few complaints gone in about her already as I'm sure she doesn't reserve her ignorance for you and you never know, your complaint could be the one that makes the difference. Anyway, you'll do it in your own time. In the meantime is there any other avenues you could explore for Hailey? I know it's been a long road thus far. X

I was on to Crumlin Hospital a few weeks ago as we are on the waiting list there for Uroflow Studies the nurse I got said that Hailey will be in the next batch done she hopes it will be in the next 6- 8 weeks so hopefully that will be helpful and soon. We are also waiting to see a Urologist we currently see a Nephrologist so hopefully we will hear something about that at some stage soon too.

Have a lot going on at mo but will give it some serious thought and do the online complaint thing with your service your say- just don't feel up to it right now.

That's good that there are more appointments on the horizon, hopefully you get some some solutions for little Hailey. And regarding the complaint, like I said you'll do it in your own time, I'm sure you feel you don't have the reserves at the moment with all that's going on to take on anything else, totally understand. Best of luck and keep us up to date.

Had Crumlin apppointment for Uroflow studies this week, we were there for over an hour and a half with the nurse all to ourselves (we usually attend T.Street and it is always jammers with loads of kids booked for the same time slot so we really felt spoilt and taken care of).

Hailey probably went on the special toilet 6 times during the 1.5 hours (she had to drink 300mls to have a full bladder to see on scan) and then she was scanned afterwards each time to see how much urine was left and her output was measured.

The nurse thinks that her brain and bladder are not communicating very well so she is going to suggest to our Dr in T.Street for her to go on medication that relaxes the bladder so that it can fill to the amount that it should fill to around 150mls instead of what Haileys fills to 60-70mls and then go back to her in 2 months and see how she is getting on.

The only thing is the medication she suggested ive been reading up about it online that it has some crazy side effects- real hulk type angry behaviour followed by tears- but she said if she suffers from this we will just stop the medication straight away.

I feel a bit hopeful- she said she will talk to Dr next week and if she agrees she will post out prescription and we can start it straight away.

Thanks to all of you who have shown support and kindness to me and for Hailey on this forum on the bad days of 15 accidents and running out of pants and trousers your kind words of support get me through the day.
