Well done Amber! I was delighted for you when you stepped on the scales yesterday! You're doing it exactly right, slowly and steadily. You might have the odd "bad" couple of days but you get back on track and your results since we started are absolute proof that this is the way to achieve healthy, sustainable weight-loss. Keep up the great work ;-)

I weighed myself yesterday and am down another 1.5lbs, so in total since we started I am down 18.5lbs. I am feeling so much better and yesterday, my hubby took a pic of me at our event and I could really see the difference for the first time. I was not cringing at the pic - which is first time in a long time that's happened!!!

I am chuffed and its giving me the will to keep going.

Stone and a half loss, here I come!!!!!!

Thanks as always to Dave for all the help, guidance and support.

And wow Amber - WELL DONE!!!!!! You are looking fabulous!!!!

Now that school is back and routines are falling back in to place, it's a good time to take a fresh look at your pattern of eating, drinking and activity. The diary can be really helpful, especially if you kept one earlier in the year, then you can compare and see what (if anything) has changed. Yes, it takes a bit of effort having to write down (or key in on your phone) every little thing but it is well worth the effort.

The basics from there are to look at subtle changes (even one per week) such as cutting down/out bread, drinking more water, not having biscuits with every cup of tea/coffee, cutting down/out sugar etc. Next is moving a bit more. It doesn't have to be a 1 hour spin class, it can be a walk, a video workout, a weighted hoola hoop (see post about same).

It might also be helpful to start the thread from the beginning again to remind yourself of the rationale behind a lot of these suggestions. There's no quick magic fix, but if you follow the guidelines with a degree of effort and enthusiasm and plan your shopping and eating/drinking, there is absolutely no reason you cannot reach your ideal height/weight ratio.

Fire away if you have any questions?

Dave.

Friday is probably the day that can have the biggest impact either positively or negatively on your progress. For many, it's a transition day from the structured, rigid schedules of Monday to Friday, to the less structured, possibly more relaxed schedules of the weekend. It's also likely to be shopping day.

Plan it right and you can make the weekend work for you instead of against you. Make sure your shopping includes the right stuff to help you and not the wrong stuff that you know you don't actually need. Don't tempt cravings by buying junk "in case anyone pops in".

As we approach the end of the third quarter of the year, do you want to wake up in January with the traditional "I'm gonna make a fresh start and get healthier" or do you want to arrive there already healthier than you are today? Make changes, not excuses ;-)

For anyone who is going to The Full 360 on Sunday to de-stress, revitalise and be motivated, I'll see you there. There's a handful of tickets left and I have a discount code if anyone wants to go, just give me a shout.

Dave.

It can be tempting when you suffer an injury or restriction of some kind, to use the "Ah Feck it" justification and gorge on the wrong food/drink. Remember, exercise is only 20% of a weight-loss journey. The other 80% is your food and drink intake. You can easily compensate for not being able to exercise as you would like with some subtle adjustments to your food and drink intake. Also, while you might not be able to go for a run or do a spin class, there is plenty of things you can do as alternatives, even sitting down. The biggest factor of all in these situations is your mindset. Stay positive. Remember what your goal is and keep on track.

Finding time to exercise is tough for me
Was getting up before work 5.30am and was enjoying but have been doing few 11/12 hour days and add in journey to and from work just hasn't happened last 2 weeks...... Will fit something in at weekend and get back on track. Foodwise haven't been too bad. Chipping away slowly as long as I keep at it I'm happy

Well done Munchin, that's great!

Remember, even if you can't fit in the exercise, it's only 20% of it, the other 80% of food and drink gives you room to compensate. I noticed on this week's OT they mentioned "small changes". Like I've been saying for years, it's possible to get extra activity into your daily routine without having to block off an extra hour. A few simple things that can be introduced:
* While waiting for a kettle to boil, do a few squats or lunges.
*Instead of carrying a large, awkward pile of washing downstairs, make 3 trips with smaller piles.
* Park higher in a multi storey car park and use the stairs.
* Park a little further from the shops than usual and walk the extra.
*Any task that requires sitting down (other than eating) grab a couple of tins of beans and do some curls or side lateral raises.

They are only small changes but they add up when they become part of a regular routine.

Not only is it the start of the weekend but tomorrow is the last day of 3/4 of the year!

Typically, it's often at this time of year that people taper off from some of the good habits that have built up and start to think about the Christmas season, which inevitably leads to an increase in the food and drink (the wrong kind of food and drink!) and then onto the "I'll start in January" thoughts. Make a decision now not to be one of those sheep that gets led in that direction. Make a plan for the next 3 months and stick to it. Remember, nobody is suggesting that you completely abstain from goodies (baddies?) and alcohol. Just keep it in moderation, keep the food, drink and activity diary going and keep monitoring weight and measurements on a regular basis. You will thank yourself in January if you are down a few pounds from where you are today. Make changes, not excuses ;-)

Happy (healthy) Friday ;-)

Well done to everyone that is making the small changes that make a difference. Some great milestones being hit by some of you in the coming weeks.

If anyone is hitting a sticking point or not seeing improvements over a long period, get back to basics. Start the detailed food, drink and activity diary again (and feel free to email me with the details after 7 days if you want some helpful suggestions, in confidence.)

Read the thread from the start again and get yourself back into the right frame of mind. Watch how you talk to yourself, get rid of phrases like "I'm no good at this", " I can't do it", I've failed before", "I'll start in January" and tell yourself every day that you CAN do this, you are capable and you deserve it!

And Friday comes around again!

There is an amazing feeling of accomplishment when you set out to make some changes to get healthier and actually do what you plan to and see the results. Of course you may hit "sticking" points and days when you really don't feel too positive or motivated. These are the days that you can make a difference. These are the days when you should tell yourself "I deserve to feel better and get healthier".

From planning to shopping to discipline to exercise and to positivity.

If you haven't started yet, start today. It's the only day you are in control of.

Have a great, healthy weekend ;-)

I've stayed the same this week. Didn't get much exercise in with alot of work on and food was ok, didn't eat much bad stuff. I think I'm run down tbh, have a sore throat, sore ears and have barely any voice left.

staying in jammies today and resting as much as I can to get better and back to exercise next week.

I'm having a terrible week. I am dosed since last week with flu. My sister was home at the weekend and we all went out Sat night and I had to come home early and go to bed. Spent all day Sunday in bed, shivering and sweating, while my family all got together.

Been stuck indoors most of the week. Just feel horrid. Sore ears, sore throat, coughing...blah blah blah.

I really hate being sick.

Cant exercise, no energy, no patience for making nice dinners. Just eating toast and tea.

Just want to be better and back to normal.

Ok, sorry, moan over.

Ah hope you get better soon, Sabbi! So frustrating when you feel like that. Just try not to be tempted to reach for junk ;-) Hot water with honey and real lemon squeezed in should help a bit (especially with the throat).

Munchin, that's great. Dropping a bit and then staying static is fine. You're still going in the right direction. Just keep the focus.

So, a lot of people will be staying at home today due to the storm warnings. Why not use the time to do something you may not normally do? Whether it's some basic exercises like lunges, squats, arm raises etc., some stair climbing, marching on the spot, crunches, skipping, treadmill/bike or even hoola-hooping! If it's not something you've done yet, you could start a food drink and activity diary with as much detail as possible.

Every long journey starts with a first step. Take one in the right direction today. It's very attainable to drop 2 dress sizes between now and Christmas with a little effort. Small, sustainable changes. Positive thinking.

Be safe out there today folks ;-)

I'm a disaster at the moment...can't seem to get focused at all. Tbh I didn't really go back on scoffing biscuits and choc but elsewhere my eating is all over the place. No water . No preparation. Midnight dinners the whole shebang :-(

HMM, remember what I said about how you talk to yourself? Saying "I'm a disaster" will only drag you in the wrong direction. You've listed the problem areas and you are fully in control of planning, preparation, water and portion size. You got around the late eating due to working hours before and you can do it again.

Draw a line, make a plan and move forward. You CAN do it ;-)
