Failed School Eye Test

Hey, Hailey had her eyes tested with the nurses that come to school in Junior infants and they phoned me to say one of her eyes failed the test.

I got her eyes tested in the summer (as she was falling over a lot and i was wondering was it because of bad eyesight- i have very bad eyesight and i was worried she had inherited it) so i am confused as to how quickly that her eye could have deteriorated.

A referral has been sent to a HSE eye specialist and they will call us for an appointment. just wondering did any of your kids fail school eyesight test and if so did they end up getting glasses?.

My little one wears glasses but she's wearing them since she was 2. Waiting list can be quite long...we were waiting about 9months and that was 5 years ago.

My neighbours little one failed and she got glasses, not sure how long it took but she definitely had them by the end of her first year in school. And they are so so cute, gorgeous bright colours that she matches to her outfits, very stylish, not like the ones when we were small, lol!

Hey thanks for that info, i rang the HSE and they said waiting list is 18 months long so will just take her to optician myself in next few weeks and get another opinion.

so got Hailey's eyes retested with the same optician that i took her to 6 months ago and her right eye has deteriorated and she has astigmatism, so she is now a glasses wearer. she seems to be taking it in her stride and is happy enough with the ones we picked out. now its a case of her not breaking or loosing them!

I wondered about the breaking or loosing possibility myself and wondered if there is some kind of insurance opticians might offer? Recently paid 370 plus 100 for assessment for a pair for my son and it's a miracle he still has them and in one piece! I suspect his success in this regard lies in the fact that he NEVER wears the bloody things!

Think it depends on the child my little one is wearing glasses since she was 2 she's neatly 8 now.....just before her 4th birthday she broke the 2 pairs within weeks of each other but spec savers were brilliant and fashion a pair that lasted until her scheduled check up a week later.

My dd is seen through temple street and when I have a new prescription I get a hse voucher and then go to specs avers who have good range and get her 2 pairs for approx 30euro.

Well her glasses survived the first week in school unbroken- there was a close call when she had put them back in her bag without putting them in the glasses case....I hope she wont do that again.
