Top ruined in wash - can I take it back?

I bought my son a McKenzie top in JD Sports a few weeks ago. He wore it twice and then I popped it into the washing machine on a 40 degree wash. I turned it inside out for the wash and then when I was hanging it to dry, I turned it right side out. As I did this I noticed the logo was stuck together and when I tried to flatten it out for drying, some of the logo came off. It was like the words of the logo were stuck together after being in the warm water and when I tried to separate them, they partially came off.

I checked the label again and it said it was ok to be put on a 40 degree wash so I don't think I did anything wrong.

Can I bring this back and ask for an exchange for something else?

I have no idea where the receipt is. I'll have a look but not sure if I kept it. What do I do if I have no receipt??

The top is a polo shirt and was 20 something euro.

Not sure on consumer rights but I can say that I bought a top in river island that went shabby in wash despite following washing instructions and I didn't have receipt and they returned it no problem. The top obviously had a river island tag though so there was no question where I had bought it. I would imagine jd sports would offer the same level of customer service.
