With most of us on budgets nowadays, I wanted to start a thread for some ideas on things you can do to make subtle changes around your home to spruce it up......

Here is one we did this week; we created a personalized wall going up the stairs. It is all our initials in different colours and fonts to give the wall a nice look and make it personal to our family. I had originally ordered the letters from an Irish company but they failed to delivered them and after waiting nearly 4 months and asking them repeatedly, I cancelled the order and went to The Wooden Letters Company instead. They were so friendly and helpful and they made our letters and got them out to us in a couple of weeks. http://thewoodenletterscompany.com/

Very happy with the end result, see below!!

Always use silk paint if you have young children. It's extremely easy to keep clean. :)

Good tip LemonB!!!

Upcylcing is a great way to make small changes without spending a fortune. I did a class in Quaint in Drogheda and got some chalk paint and used it to 'upcycle' some old furniture around the house (they were items that were basically ready for the skip!) but now look really nice and l am so proud that I made them look like that. A friend of mine came in and asked where I bought the cabinet (pic below) and I said I painted it myself and he did not believe me!!

I am going to upcycle another unit in the coming weeks and turn it into a sideboard for the kitchen. I'll post pics when I do it. Here are some pics of stuff I already did: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17783
